DOCTORAL STUDENTSIntroduction [Biosketch]
- Dr. Shanti Gopal Patra was born and raised in Bankura, West Bengal, India. He obtained his bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Chemistry from the University of Burdwan in 2010. Then he received his master’s degree (M.Sc.) from the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, in 2012. Then, he went to the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata, to pursue his research work under Prof. Dipankar Datta and obtained his Ph.D. in 2018. During his Ph.D., he worked on synthesizing N-donor ligands and their transition metal complexes. The complexes were characterized by employing several spectroscopic methods. Density functional theory (DFT) was used to understand their properties and catalytic applications. Further, he worked on computational analysis of various metal complexes regarding their aromatic property, electronic properties, and structural aspects. After completing his Ph.D., he moved to Ariel University, Israel, as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Prof. Dan Meyerstein until November 2020. During his postdoc under Prof. Meyerstein, he studied water-splitting reactions using metal carbonates and understood the mechanism using DFT calculations. He worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Arunachal University of Studies for a short period. Then, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Prof. Pratim Kumar Chattaraj at the Department of Chemistry, IIT Kharagpur, from October 2021 to September 2023. During his second postdoc under Prof. Chattaraj, he worked on conceptual density functional theory to understand the reactivity and reaction mechanism. Currently, he works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at NIT Silchar. In his 11 years of research, he has worked on computational chemistry to understand the aromaticity, reaction mechanism, reactivity of molecules, magnetism, etc.
